DESCRIPTION:The CASA Book Club will be meeting on Thursday\, May 21\, at 6 pm at the Jeffco Courthouse. We will convene in one of the meeting rooms to the left of the elevator. Look for the signs. \nWe will read and discuss the book\, The Body Keeps the Score\, by Bessel Van Der Kolk. The book combines neuroscience and clinical experience to explain how trauma physically reshapes the brain and body\, leading to issues like anxiety\, depression\, and disconnection. The book not only makes inferences on causes but also explores body-based treatments\, offering hope for recovery. \n \nThere is a pdf version of the book online here. \nThe book is available on Amazon for $14. The Prospector Library System has the book\, but you will need to be added to the wait list for the hard copy or audio. \nRead the book and come prepared to discuss how the book impacts your current or past cases and how we might apply concepts to our mission. The book club qualifies for continuing education credit. \nNote that our CASA Book Club meets regularly every other month on the 3rd Thursday and alternates between books and movies related to foster care\, adoption\, and fulfilling the mission of the best interests of children. This session will take the concepts and specifically apply them to your work as a CASA Advocate\, giving you strategies for establishing trust\, opening the lines of communication\, and building routine with your neuro-divergent CASA youth. This training creates a welcoming\, neuro-affirming space for learning\, reflection\, and open dialogue in a supportive environment.\nParticipants are encouraged to submit questions ahead of time to ensure our facilitator can customize the content to your needs as a CASA Advocate. SUMMARY:Mindfullness for CASA Wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:Continuing Education: Mindfulness for CASA Wellbeing\nSupporting children through difficult experiences starts with caring for yourself first. Join this engaging continuing education session designed specifically for CASA volunteers to explore practical mindfulness strategies that reduce stress\, build emotional resilience\, and strengthen connections with youth. Volunteers will learn simple\, trauma-informed mindfulness techniques they can use in their own daily lives as part of a healthy self-care routine\, while also gaining tools to help CASA youth manage anxiety\, regulate emotions\, and feel more grounded. Participants will leave with easy-to-use strategies that support both volunteer well-being and positive youth outcomes.\n\nOur facilitator\, Kathy Watters\, is a Public Health Consultant\, Enneagram and Mindfulness Instructor\, and a CASA Peer Coordinator and Advocate.
