CASA Book Club – June 2026

June 24 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The CASA Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, July 16 at 6 pm at the Jeffco Courthouse. We will convene in a meeting room on the first floor. Go left at the elevators.

The movie documentary we will watch and discuss is Foster Shock. This hour long documentary looks at systemic failure and success of the Florida foster care system. Additionally, rare interviews with older youth reflect the point of view of youth in the system.

Most of the stakeholders we encounter in our work are mentioned in the film. As CASA’s, we will be able to identify and compare our experience and cases with a discerning eye. The film will provide a launch point for great discussion and focus on continuing education and action orientation. This documentary begins a discussion of systemic problems to policy change and will be a great prequel to our September series. (see below)

The movie is free on YouTube

Watch the movie and come prepared to discuss how the movie impacts your current or past cases and how we might apply concepts to our mission. Watching and coming to the meeting earns training credit.

Looking ahead to September, we are excited to announce a 4 part review of the bookFoster Care to Freedom, by Nathaniel Bustamonte featuring the author himself. This multipart review will take place within 4 sessions. Watch the CASA Newsletter for more details and how to sign up.
